About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Engineer to join our team in the design and manufacturing of high-quality commercial kitchen equipment. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize sheet metal components for products used in the food service, hospitality, and institutional industry. As a key contributor, cross functional collaboration with PM’s and CAD team are critical to ensure concepts and designs are turned into manufacturable products while ensuring quality, efficiency, and cost-effective measures are being met throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop sheet metal components and assemblies for commercial kitchen equipment (e.g., hoods, prep tables, cabinets, sinks)
- Create and interpret technical drawings, flat patterns, and layouts for manufacturing in AutoCAD
- Optimize designs for manufacturability (DFM), cost efficiency, and durability
- Generate flat patterns, bend allowances, and material specifications
- Work closely with fabrication teams on press brake, laser cutting, and welding processes to ensure designs are meeting quality standards
- Review prototypes and make design adjustments based on performance and production feedback
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (NSF, UL, ANSI where applicable)
- Troubleshoot production issues and provide engineering support on the floor
- Maintain accurate documentation, BOMs, and revision control
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in sheet metal design and fabrication
- Strong proficiency in CAD software
- Solid understanding of:
- Sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, punching, bending, welding)
- Stainless steel materials (304, 316, etc.)
- Experience creating flat patterns and understanding bend deductions
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial kitchen equipment or food service manufacturing
- Familiarity with NSF/UL compliance requirements
- Experience working directly with shop floor teams
- Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset
