Job Summary
The Shift Engineer – Paint Shop is responsible for overseeing paint shop operations during assigned shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality coating processes. This role focuses on equipment reliability, process control, quality compliance, and coordination of maintenance activities while minimizing downtime and defects.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise paint shop operations during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to production schedules.
- Monitor and control painting processes including pretreatment, electro-coat (E-coat), primer, base coat, and clear coat.
- Ensure proper operation of paint booths, ovens, conveyors, robots, and material handling systems.
- Troubleshoot process issues related to paint defects (runs, sags, orange peel, pinholes, fisheyes, adhesion issues).
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for breakdowns, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions.
- Monitor process parameters such as temperature, humidity, air flow, pressure, and curing times.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, SOPs, and customer specifications.
- Enforce safety practices related to chemicals, solvents, fire hazards, and PPE usage.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (VOC control, waste disposal, emissions).
- Maintain shift logs, production reports, downtime records, and quality data.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, TPM, Six Sigma).
- Train and guide operators on proper painting techniques and equipment operation.
Required Knowledge & Technical Skills (Paint Shop Focus)
- Strong knowledge of industrial painting processes and surface preparation.
- Understanding of paint chemistry, viscosity control, mixing ratios, and curing behavior.
- Knowledge of spray systems (manual and robotic), electrostatic painting, and air atomization.
- Familiarity with pretreatment systems (degreasing, phosphating, rinsing).
- Experience with paint booths, filtration systems, and bake ovens.
- Knowledge of defect analysis and root cause identification.
- Basic understanding of PLCs, sensors, and automation in paint shops.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 2–7 years of experience in paint shop or similar industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance.
- Experience working in shift-based operations.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
