1. Operational Responsibilities
A Shipping & Logistics Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring smooth, efficient movement of goods from origin to destination — covering inbound, outbound, and export/import flows.
Daily Operations
- Plan, oversee and coordinate shipping operations, including scheduling shipments and routing cargo.
- Track and monitor cargo movements (sea, road, possibly air) to ensure timely delivery.
- Manage shipping documentation such as bills of lading, export/import certificates, freight invoices, customs paperwork and related regulatory filings.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and port authorities to clear cargo efficiently and comply with regulations.
- Coordinate with warehouse teams on pick-up, storage, consolidation and dispatch of goods.
Inventory & Warehouse Linkage
Even if not directly managing the warehouse, a Shipping & Logistics Manager typically works with warehouse functions to ensure goods are ready for shipment or delivery on schedule.

2. Strategic & Planning Scope
Beyond day-to-day tasks, this role often includes strategic planning and optimization:
Planning & Optimization
- Develop logistics strategies to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
- Evaluate and select transport routes, carriers, and service providers based on cost, service level and reliability.
- Forecast demand and plan resource allocation accordingly (vehicles, containers, staff).
- Implement process improvements and logistics performance metrics (KPIs).
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with shipping, customs and trade laws, both domestic and international.
- Maintain records and reports to support audits, compliance checks, and regulatory documentation.

3. Leadership & Coordination
Logistics management is highly cross-functional, requiring coordination across departments:
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and supervise logistics, dispatch and administrative teams.
- Train and mentor staff on best practices in shipping and documentation.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders (sales, procurement, production) to align logistics with business needs.
External Relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with carriers, shipping lines, vendors, customs officials and port agents.

- Generate reports on delivery performance, transit times and logistics costs.
- Perform data analysis to identify bottlenecks and improve operations.

Skills & Requirements Typically Expected
