Job Summary

The Shop Floor In-Charge / QC is responsible for supervising daily production activities on the shop floor while ensuring that all products meet defined quality standards, drawings, and customer specifications. The role ensures smooth workflow, quality compliance, safety adherence, and coordination between production and quality teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesShop Floor Supervision

  • Supervise and control day-to-day shop floor activities.
  • Allocate manpower, machines, and materials effectively.
  • Monitor production targets, cycle time, and productivity.
  • Ensure adherence to approved drawings, work instructions, and SOPs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance for machine breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure housekeeping and 5S implementation on the shop floor.

Quality Control (QC)

  • Inspect raw materials, in-process work, and finished goods.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct dimensional checks, visual inspections, and functional tests.
  • Identify non-conforming products and ensure corrective actions.
  • Maintain QC records, inspection reports, and checklists.
  • Support internal and external quality audits.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to HSE policies and PPE usage.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO / QHSE standards and company policies.
  • Report and investigate shop floor incidents and near misses.

Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate with production planning, QC, stores, and dispatch teams.
  • Prepare daily production and quality reports.
  • Communicate quality issues and production delays to management.
  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of shop floor operations and quality control processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with measuring instruments (Vernier, micrometer, gauges).
  • Leadership and team-handling skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / ITI / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3–6 years of experience in a manufacturing or steel/fabrication unit.
  • Experience in shop floor supervision and QC inspection.
