Shop Helper – Welding & Metal Fabrication

Duties

  • Assist with the preparation of sheet metal, ductwork, and other fabrication materials using hand tools and power tools
  • Support welding operations by setting up equipment for MIG, TIG, FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and welding processes under supervision
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to aid in accurate assembly and fabrication tasks
  • Operate machinery such as press brake machines, plasma cutters, and pipe threading tools with proper safety precautions
  • Help with rigging, lifting, and positioning heavy materials using cranes or forklifts while adhering to safety protocols
  • Measure components precisely using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools to ensure quality standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all safety guidelines related to ASME codes & standards and construction site procedures

Skills

  • Construction site experience with exposure to welding environments preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, plasma cutting equipment, press brake machines, and machining tools
  • Mechanical knowledge of fabrication processes including pipe threading, soldering, assembly, and ductwork installation
  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, or rigging equipment safely on construction or manufacturing sites
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to fabrication tasks
  • Knowledge of ASME codes & standards applicable to welding and fabrication projects
