We are looking for a highly organized, take-charge Shop Operations Manager to run the day-to-day heartbeat of our upholstery shop. McCoy’s Upholstery has been delivering high-quality automotive, marine, and furniture upholstery since 1948. We are a busy, production-driven shop known for craftsmanship, reliability, consistent quality, and fast turnaround times. Position Overview

We are seeking a highly organized and hands-on Shop Operations Manager / Project Manager to oversee daily production, manage workflow, and coordinate customer projects from start to finish. This role is primarily focused on operations, systems, scheduling, materials, and team management, with customer interaction and estimating/sales as a secondary responsibility. You will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 8 employees, ensuring jobs stay on schedule, materials are ready, and the shop runs efficiently day-to-day.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Workflow Management (Primary Focus)

  • - Plan and manage daily and weekly production schedules, forecasting upcoming projects
  • - Coordinate workflow across multiple jobs simultaneously
  • - Ensure smooth progression of jobs from teardown → fabrication → install
  • - Identify bottlenecks and adjust workflow to maintain efficiency
  • - Maintain a clean, organized, and productive shop environment.

Team Management

  • - Oversee and support a team of 8 highly skilled upholstery technicians
  • - Assign work based on skill level, specialties, and workload.
  • - Ensure & monitor a safe working environment. SAFETY First & Always.
  • - Monitor productivity, quality, and accountability.
  • - Ensure teams have the proper materials, parts, tools, and space to complete the daily tasks.
  • - Foster a professional, team-oriented, family style culture.

Materials & Inventory

  • - Order and track materials (vinyl, leather, foam, hardware, etc.)
  • - Organize, Label and Track all materials and daily deliveries
  • - Ensure all materials are in-house ahead of scheduled work
  • - Coordinate with vendors and manage lead times
  • - Control material usage and minimize waste

Project Management

  • - Manage jobs from intake through completion
  • - Track progress, deadlines, and priorities
  • - Ensure all work meets quality standards
  • - Communicate internally on job status and challenges

Customer Interaction & Sales (Secondary)

  • - Meet with customers to discuss projects and provide estimates
  • - Recommend materials and solutions when needed
  • - Assist with Design & Industry Trends
  • - Support closing jobs and maintaining customer relationships
  • - Follow up on active projects to ensure customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • - Experience in a production or shop environment (upholstery, automotive, manufacturing,
  • construction, or similar)
  • - Car Enthusiast
  • - Proven experience managing teams, schedules, and workflow
  • - Strong organizational and time management skills
  • - Basic Computer Skills (Email & Microsoft Suite)
  • - Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • - Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • - Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment

Preferred (Not Required)

  • - Upholstery or Automotive interior experience
  • - No sewing skills required, but very helpful
  • - Experience writing estimates or working with customers
  • - English required / Spanish speaking very helpful
  • - Familiarity with scheduling or shop management systems
  • - Inventory or Supply chain experience
  • - Fabrication/Carpentry Skills/Car Audio are all helpful skills
  • - Social Media (Instagram/Facebook) /Advertising experience for showcasing our completed projects

Compensation & Benefits

  • - Competitive salary ($60,000–$80,000 based on experience & skills)
