Shop Supervisor/Production Manager- Sign/Marquee Manufacturing

Job Summary:

The Shop Supervisor must have an all-encompassing view of the sign manufacturing operations, including communication and interaction with the office, sales, art-design, and installation departments, to implement various manufacturing techniques to achieve the company’s and the client’s expectations.

This position also includes managing plant personnel, creating and overseeing procedures for plant purposes, overseeing the processes to manufacture signs, determining the materials needed for the project, verifying quality control, and managing daily and full-term production schedules with the project manager. The Shop Supervisor will work with the office to order materials required for specific jobs, as well as stock materials for the plant.

The position requires knowledge of how to manufacture signs. Again, this can be trained alongside the current Shop Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Leads production meetings as well as distributes orders, drawings, and pertinent information.
  • Oversees the day-to-day workflow of production staff and updates the production spreadsheet.
  • Manages all plant employees, including the assistant plant manager and plant employees.
  • Works in collaboration with the office regarding any violation of company policies, individual or group safety concerns, or reasonable suspicion of controlled substances.
  • Works in collaboration with the Installation Team and Supportive Staff to insure cost-efficient and structurally sound projects and completion.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive with plant employees.
  • Handles discipline and termination of plant employees as needed in accordance with company policy.
  • Oversee maintenance, repairs, or replacement of the interior building, plant equipment, and tools.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Creates or designs the most cost-effective, structurally sound building technique needed to match the visual acuity of the architectural design.
  • Oversees the production process to ensure delivery of high-quality products that meet the customer’s needs.
  • Identifies any production delays; ensures necessary labor, materials, and other resources are available to relieve production delays.
  • Adjust, update, and communicate if material delays occur or priority projects supersede other projects in production. Time Management is a must.
  • Collaborates with the owner and sales department to identify and resolve quality concerns.
  • Uses production planning and scheduling to limit materials shortages.
  • Ensures production machinery complies with safety standards.
  • Works with the plant personnel or outside vendor on the repair of machines used in the production process to avoid downtime or delays.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Projects a strong work ethic.

· Knowledge of layout of fabrication in a sign shop with various machines, including hydraulic shears, ironworker machines, break forming, sheet metals, structural shapes, structural pipes, tube, and match plates, and various welding equipment. Strong knowledge of measurements.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to teach and convey the sharing of information on building techniques if necessary.

· Experience creating layout drawings to be used by plant personnel for fabrication of signs, particularly using COREL software or similar programs, along with an understanding of building techniques and basic sign engineering principles.

· Use a variety of computer programs and systems at an intermediate level, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Experience:

  • Seeking a candidate with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’- relevant manufacturing experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move about the plant (including stairs) to oversee manufacturing production.
  • Periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Regular premises attendance required.
