Short-Term Worker - Library Youth Services

Position Summary

Bozeman Public Library is seeking three short term workers passionate about engaging with kids as they learn, play, and explore. These short-term workers will primarily work with the staff in Youth Services providing friendly customer service, readers’ advisory, and assistance with programming. We are looking for candidates who can commit to the entire season, starting May 26th and ending August 21st.

We are looking to hire two Part-Time (20 hours/week) positions:

  • Option 1: Monday 8:30 AM-5:30 PM, Wednesday 9 AM-5:30 PM, Sunday 12:45-5:15 PM
  • Option 2: Monday 10 AM-6PM, Friday 9:15 AM-6:16 PM, Saturday 12:15-5:15 PM

And one Full-Time (40 hours/week) position:

  • Option 1: Tuesday 9 AM-6 PM, Wednesday 9 AM-6 PM, Thursday 9 AM-6 PM, Friday 9:15 AM-6:15 PM, Saturday 8:15 AM-5:15 PM

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Non-Exempt
Length of Season: May 26, 2026 - August 21, 2026.
Assignment Details: Not to exceed 90 working days or 520 hours, whichever comes first.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide kind and respectful frontline library services to the public including engaging with program attendees and their caregivers.
  • Assist library staff in presenting programs and services to children, teenagers, and their caregivers.
  • Maintains cleanliness throughout the Library by organizing, transporting, performing light custodial work, and deep cleaning program materials.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate clearly with colleagues.
  • Utilize City vehicles to obtain and transport supplies for summer programming.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with City of Bozeman Code of Ethics, Bozeman Public Library policy and procedure, and the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement.
  • Perform other directly related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Some experience working or volunteering with children or teenagers is required.
  • Some customer service, public service, library, or children’s programing, experience is preferred, but not required.
  • This position requires operation of a company vehicle; candidates must be 18 years of age or older and meet all company driving eligibility requirements.
  • Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory responses to appropriate post conditional offer process.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn library functions, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
  • Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City’s Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork.
