A Shuttering Carpenter builds temporary molds (formwork) for concrete structures like walls, columns, and slabs, ensuring precise shapes for foundations and beams using wood, plywood, or steel, requiring blueprint reading, cutting, assembly, installation, and safe dismantling after concrete sets, all while following strict safety rules. Key Responsibilities
- Formwork Construction: Measure, cut, assemble, and install temporary molds (formwork/shuttering) for concrete elements.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret construction drawings to understand dimensions, layouts, and specifications.
- Material Handling: Work with timber, plywood, steel, and other materials, using tools like saws, hammers, drills, and clamps.
- Installation & Support: Securely set up formwork, ensuring it's level, aligned, and braced to withstand concrete pressure.
- Finishing Touches: Apply release agents (formwork oil) and potentially place steel reinforcement (rebar) within the forms.
- Dismantling: Carefully remove formwork after concrete has cured, preventing damage to the structure.
- Safety & Site Maintenance: Adhere to health and safety regulations, maintain tools, and keep the worksite clean.
- Team Collaboration: Work with supervisors, concrete workers, and other trades to meet project timelines.
