Position Summary

The Bus Dispatcher / Driver is responsible for coordinating daily transportation operations while safely operating buses and transporting passengers when needed. This role combines dispatching duties such as scheduling, route coordination, driver communication, and operational support with professional driving responsibilities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Dispatching Responsibilities

· Coordinate daily bus routes, schedules, and driver assignments.

· Monitor route performance and respond to delays, emergencies, or service disruptions.

· Maintain communication with drivers via radio, phone, or dispatch software.

· Track vehicle availability and report maintenance issues promptly.

· Assist with route planning and scheduling adjustments based on operational needs.

· Maintain accurate dispatch logs, driver records, and incident reports.

· Provide excellent customer service when communicating with passengers, clients, and staff.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and safety procedures.

Driving Responsibilities

· Safely operate buses in accordance with all traffic laws and company policies.

· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.

· Transport passengers safely and professionally along assigned routes.

· Assist passengers as needed, including those with disabilities or special accommodations.

· Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicles.

· Report accidents, incidents, mechanical concerns, or delays immediately.

· Follow all safety and emergency procedures.

Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement required.

· Clean driving record with the ability to meet company insurance requirements.

· Previous dispatching, transportation, or customer service experience preferred.

· Strong communication and organizational skills.

· Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

· Basic computer skills and familiarity with dispatch software preferred.

· Ability to work flexible schedules, including early morning, evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to sit for extended periods while driving or dispatching.

· Ability to enter and exit vehicles multiple times daily.

· Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

· Must be able to work in varying weather and traffic conditions.

Work Environment

· Combination of office/dispatch center and field driving environment.

· Fast-paced transportation operation requiring strong attention to detail and safety.
