Position Summary:
The Simulation Technician at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) is responsible for ongoing technical and logistical support for simulation and clinical skills delivery within the Simulation Center. Major areas of responsibility will include collaborating with the Director of Simulation Education, Technical Director of the Simulation Center, Director of Clinical Education, Director of Ultrasound Education, the Department Chair, and multi-disciplinary groups to assist in the implementation and utilization of high-fidelity simulators, procedural task trainers, and other training assets required for the delivery of simulation and Clinical Skills education. The Simulation Technician l is responsible for audio/visual (A/V) equipment evaluation, inventory, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support, as well as care of the manikins and other equipment used in the simulation and Clinical Skills program. In addition to the daily responsibilities, this person will assist in managing technology related maintenance agreements, operating computer mannequins, related operating software, and A/V equipment. They will also assist with locating and managing medical supplies required for simulation and clinical skills activities. The majority of tasks supporting efficient and effective use of clinical simulation technology products will impact CUSOM (faculty, staff, and students) but will also support the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, other university programs, and external health agencies, including Campbell University-affiliated graduate medical education programs, utilizing simulation resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the coordination of OSCE, SIM and classroom schedules consistent with SIM Center policies and procedures.
Assist in the maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware, software, equipment, and supplies.
Set up simulation and skills training equipment and other learning technology interfaces to meet needs of faculty and students.
Operate computer hardware and audio-video recording systems.
Operate simulation equipment with the ability to make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions and faculty direction.
Assist the faculty with organization, preparation, and implementation of patient simulator modules.
Identify and implement solutions to problems related to simulation and task training equipment, computer hardware, and software.
Repair and maintain equipment as required or initiate repairs for equipment under warranty.
Communicate with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes.
Communicate both technical and non-technical matters effectively in person and in writing with a diverse population.
Acquire and maintain skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies in the Health Sciences division.
Meet with Director of Simulation Education, Director of Clinical Education, Director of Ultrasound Training, the Coordinator for SIM Center Operations, and the Technical Director of the SIM Center on a regular basis to discuss current issues related to logistics, equipment, or technology and plan for future technology needs.
Assist in maintaining reference materials for simulation and task training equipment and related audio-visual and computer hardware and software.
Train and assist faculty on operation of equipment.
Develop and Quick-Guide reference aids for faculty related to new and existing equipment and technology.
Assist in planning, developing, and implementing new and innovative ways to maximize operational efficiency.
Recommend and implement changes in work processes to improve quality of service.
Contribute effectively to a positive work environment that demonstrates and supports a learning-centered environment.
Promote and model an interdisciplinary team approach in the conduct of daily operations.
Reinforce and maintain high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to assist in ensuring the security of CUSOM’s technology assets and data.
Assure the advancement and integration of high standards for ethical and professional behavior in all aspects of student education and actions of the administration, faculty, and staff.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to: Title IX, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.

Education/Experience:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education/experience in clinical simulation and/or information technology.
Be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Media, etc.) and have the ability to troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues. (Windows and Mac).
Preferred:
Licensure / certification (e.g., PA, RN, EMT, EMT-P) or equivalent medical experience.
Ability to work on a flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends may be required.
1-3 years of experience with health-related learning technology/simulation.
Experience with video capture and learning management systems (LMS) software package (i.e., B-Line, Blackboard).
Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and positively.
Due to nature of work, frequent contact with users experiencing technical issues will be required; ability to defuse tense situations and work to resolve issues through customer service-oriented approach is required. Ability to listen and communicate in a positive manner.
Ability to collaborate and interact with health care professionals.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities; capable of prioritizing tasks and managing multiple concurrent projects under tight deadlines.
Ability to manage time well and work under stressful conditions with an even temperament.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and the internet.
Demonstrate discretion, courtesy, and professionalism in interactions with students, faculty, staff, university officials, and the public.
Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex and new situations.
Broad knowledge of Campbell University policies and procedures.
Complexity of Duties:
Work completed in coordination with the Director of Simulation, Coordinator for SIM Center Operations, Technical Director of the SIM Center, Director of Clinical Skills, and others as described in Core Responsibilities section above.
Role requires extensive team collaboration to effectively provide simulation technology services on multiple campuses with all levels of faculty and staff.
Due to the number of faculty supported, the workload can require the ability to work on multiple, unrelated activities and a wide variety of clinical simulation technology products and applications at the same time.
Demands the ability to plan 3–6 months in advance while also responding to immediate challenges related to technology, scheduling, and workload.
Types of Contacts:
Internal Faculty and Staff: Collaborate with CUSOM, CPHS, and CU-affiliated GME faculty and staff to support simulation technology and educational programming.
Information Technology: Consult on system and equipment concerns, including simulation and health-related learning technologies, equipment purchases, and hardware/software issues.
Vendors and Consultants: Engage with external partners to evaluate products, coordinate maintenance, and implement improvements in simulation technology.
Students: Provide support and coordination for simulation events and services involving medical and CPHS students.
Decision-Making, Innovation and Creativity:
Collaborate with the Director of Simulation, Simulation Education Specialist, Director of Ultrasound Training, and Director of SIM Center Operations to establish processes and procedures.
Creativity may be required in multimedia product development, the creation of realistic scenario environment and materials, and in response to student interaction during scenarios.
Mental Demands: (complexity of duties, decision-making responsibilities, etc.)
Ability to understand oral and written information and organize thoughts and ideas into effective forms of communication.
Ability to make decisions which range from moderate to a significant impact on the immediate work environment, as well as outside contributors.

This position demands honesty, integrity, and the ability to work with the Christian mission of Campbell University.
Requires attendance at events within as well as outside of the University setting.
Office and clinical simulation lab environment.
Position requires frequent lifting of heavy objects (mannequins, equipment, etc.).
Requires flexibility in hours worked including the willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends and assist with special university events.
Requires work with medical equipment including latex based products. This position requires occasional travel to hospitals and other events in North Carolina and South Carolina which may necessitate overnight stay.
