  • Active RN license in good standing
  • BSN degree preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, including work in a lead or supervisory capacity and working with at-risk youth in a residential / hospital setting
  • Active Florida Drivers License, in good standing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in computer programs and software


Job Description:

The SIPP Charge Nurse is responsible for providing client care and treatment for residential clients and families as per programmatic policies. The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing all nursing needs related to the day-to-day operations of the program, in include staffing, clients, and the residential environment.


Work Duties:

  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • Observes and reports client changes in status to Program Director and Psychiatrist.
  • Recognizes, reports, documents and seeks appropriate intervention for signs and symptoms of complications or changes in status.
  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect and takes corrective actions per agency policy.
  • Collects and reports client data in accordance with program procedures.
  • Consistently includes the parent/guardian in client care.
  • Ensures proper nursing coverage and assignments in all designated residential cottages.
  • Identifies and documents nursing issues.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Records and carries out physician orders appropriately.
  • Plans, provides and evaluates client education specific to assessed needs, age, abilities and readiness as appropriate to client’s length of stay.
  • Educates clients/parents/guardians on treatment planning and medical issues according to their age and abilities.
  • Demonstrates competence in understanding that the dynamics of the client’s status, including frequency for the need for specific nursing care activities, change.
  • Demonstrates competence in the degree of supervision required by each nursing staff member based on previous addressed level of competence.
  • Participates in the agency’s admission process to coordinate client requirements with nursing staff.
  • Sets appropriate priorities for care.
  • Develops and implements orientation plan for nursing personnel.
  • Develops, implements, monitors and maintains quality assurance for the infection control program while ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Administers medications in a safe manner, including proper documentation.
  • Delegates treatments and procedures to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds appropriately in life-threatening situations.
  • Selects, trains and evaluates all supervised employees in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Consistently keeps appropriate staff notified of changes regarding medical care as dictated by the state of Florida, CDC and other agencies.
  • Makes appropriate decisions regarding the well-being of the client to include the need for medical evaluation and medication administration.
  • Contacts Program Director and Psychiatrist when necessary for orders or consultation as it pertains to treatment of the client.
  • Directs nursing staff as it relates to the treatment of the client and works cooperatively with all staff involved.
  • Provides effective liaison with community medical services and professionals.
  • Coordinates pharmacy and medical needs on a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrates proper and safe utilization of all supplies and equipment.
  • Attend and participate in program meetings and assigned committees.
  • Participates in/or coordinates nursing staff’s participation in client treatment planning.
  • Considers and respects the language, age and cultural/religious beliefs of the client.
  • Consistently maintains client confidentiality.
  • Conducts agency trainings as needed such as Medication Administration and Infection Control
  • Respects decisions, desires and authority of the parent/guardian.
  • Consistently treats each client and family with dignity and care.
  • Models appropriate and professional behavior, i.e., dress, habits, personality, tact, etc.
  • Disseminates information at departmental staff meetings.
  • Consistently follows agency policies for information management and client records.
  • Reports and completes incident reports in the time prescribed as per agency policy.
  • Maintains accurate and organized filing of all documentation and information.
  • Relates with clients, parents/guardians, peers and the general public in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Actively supports agency philosophy and goals.
  • Works effectively as a team member.
  • Displays a willingness to work on varying assignments.
  • Continually displays a positive attitude to the department and the agency.
  • Completes assignments per department and agency schedules.
  • Actively seeks self-improvement opportunities.
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills necessary for focused and active participation.
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled.
  • Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness.
  • Ensures breaks and meal times are kept to acceptable limits.
  • Staff member demonstrates an awareness and understanding of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the client and implements awareness and understanding in the client’s treatment


Hours:
Salaried, exempt position to include evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities.


Physical Demands:

The employee will be required to talk, hear and see; be able successfully complete Crisis Prevention training which requires physical components, including bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting, to ensure the safety of clients and staff; stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time.
