The role of a Mechanical Project Engineer in a hydropower plant involves assisting in the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical projects, ensuring they meet technical specifications, budgets, and quality standards. This role works closely with other engineering departments and contributes to the entire lifecycle of the plant, from design to operations and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Coordination: Assist in determining project scope, creating budgets, and developing detailed project schedules and maintenance procedures.
On-Site Supervision: Supervise the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components like turbines, generators, and piping systems, ensuring all work complies with safety and quality standards.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Support troubleshooting efforts to diagnose mechanical issues, implement effective solutions, and provide technical assistance to prevent and resolve problems.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all project and maintenance activities, including daily maintenance reports, inspection checklists, and breakdown reports.
Quality & Safety Assurance: Educate the team on quality standards and safety regulations (HSE implementation) and conduct risk assessments for mechanical systems.
Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, civil, and design engineers, to integrate all project scopes and ensure seamless operations.
Vendor Management: Support during the procurement process and manage interfaces with vendors and contractors.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
Experience: Typically requires 5-6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the power generation or heavy industrial sector.
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical systems (turbines, pumps, hydraulic systems), proficiency in CAD software, MS Project/similar., and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with experience in project management and cross-functional teamwork.
Certifications: A Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure is often preferred for career advancement.
