Skilled CNC Machinist

Overview

In this role, you will manufacture and inspect precision components using various CNC machines such as Mazak and Citizen, along with measuring equipment including Trimos, VMM and conventional inspection equipment.

Our ideal candidate will have completed a relevant apprenticeship or machinist training programme (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) and have at least 2 years’ experience within a manufacturing environment. Previous experience as a lathe operator or within a manual machining role would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities

Here is what you can expect on a day-to-day basis in the role of Skilled CNC Machinist. Whilst good knowledge and experience are required, further training will be provided where necessary.

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Set, programme and operate CNC machines
  • Ensure safe systems of work are followed
  • Fault finding and defect rectification
  • Report and log production data as required
  • Assist with continuous improvement activities
  • Carry out machining operations such as turning, drilling, boring and milling
  • Carry out detailed inspections using a variety of measuring equipment
  • Manufacture close tolerance precision components
  • Share knowledge and support fellow colleagues where required

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ machining experience
  • Ideally experienced in sliding head or fixed head machining
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges
  • Experience working to tight tolerances
  • Good housekeeping and continuous improvement mindset
  • Able to manufacture high precision components from engineering drawings, including tolerances and surface finish requirements
  • Good understanding of CNC programmes and modern manufacturing techniques
  • Strong team player with a flexible attitude
