Position will vary from job to job, but they generally will fit into one of the descriptions above. They may range in experience levels from an entry-level position to highly skilled laborers who are adept at a variety of skill levels. Their daily activities can range from clean up, organizing material, delivery and setting of concrete materials, hand excavation with shovels, clay spade, grading sand or dirt, to placing concrete forming materials, and placing/leveling concrete. Skilled laborers are well-organized individuals, dependable, adept at forming skills, anticipate the needs of those who they work with, energetic individuals who keep their tools handy, and who are attentive and focus on their daily activities.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Required: High School graduate or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Experience:
Required: One year prior work experience.
Preferred: Experience in concrete finishing in a construction environment
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions in English preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools or power tools of the trade.
- Ability to receive and/or deliver job site materials.
Physical Requirements:
- This position requires standing for an extended length of time.
- Must be able to climb up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds without assistance.
- The physical conditions for this position are rough and sometimes vigorous. The work demands the individuals have the endurance to quickly and safely move themselves in site clean up, sweep, and pull materials to the appropriate work area.
Mental Requirements:
- Basic math skills including understanding of weights and measures.
- Ability to communicate in English with employees, management, and customers.
- Ability to understand the use and capabilities of construction equipment and tools.
Work Environment:
- Construction environment.
- This may include weekends and overtime.
- Exposure to extreme heat & cold weather conditions, dust and dirt.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- The concrete finisher reports directly to the assigned Foreman or Superintendent in charge.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect and load tools, equipment and materials for assigned jobs as directed.
- Prepare tools, material and supplies for efficient use on the job site.
- Have tools, equipment and material ready as required.
- Assist with job layout and site preparation as directed.
- Assist Foreman or Superintendent in organizing material list and equipment.
- Follow the Company Safety Program.
- Follow Superintendent direction
- Call into the office and/or supervisor if you are going to be late, sick, or have to be gone for an extended period of time.
- Perform job site cleanup including collection of all tools, equipment and material.
- Ensure that all tools and equipment are returned to their proper place in a clean and secure manner daily.
- Operate tools safely.
- Able to perform the following specific tasks:
- Up-to-date record keeping at all times (daily time sheets, etc.)
- Perform work at a quality level consistent with Snodgrass & Sons standard practices
- Complete miscellaneous jobs according to instructions given to get units ready for the next phase of construction
- Assist Carpenters in setting concrete forms for sidewalks and stairs (form setter)
- Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
