SKILLED HGV MECHANIC/TECHNICIAN/TRAILER FITTER

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled HGV mechanic to run our onsite workshop. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of heavy goods vehicles to ensure they remain safe, roadworthy and compliant with all regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs and trailers
  • Diagnose mechanicals and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment
  • Perform inspections in line with DVSA standards
  • Complete MOT preparation work
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components and systems
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems, including engines, transmissions, and braking systems. Regular servicing and running repairs on the fleet
  • Carry out heavy lifting tasks safely while adhering to health and safety regulations. Ensuring a safe and clean working environment, complying with health and safety regulations and working with our HSE advisor.
  • Prompt repair of all defective vehicles to the highest standard ensuring that all vehicles are maintained in accordance with the Company Operating Licence guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including parts used and time taken for each job.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency repairs when required
  • Collaborate with The Transport Manager and Operations Director to ensure timely completion of repairs/ inspections/brake tests while maintaining quality standards.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in technology related to HGV maintenance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Technician .
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot various vehicle systems.
  • Experience in welding, assembling, and fabricating components as needed.
  • Ability to dig into complex issues using logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical capability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely when required.
  • relevant mecanical qualifications (NVQ level 3, or equivalant preferred)
  • full UK driving licence(HGV licence advantages)
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with diagnostic software and electronic systems
  • IRTEC accreditation
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Flexibility to work shifts or overtime if required

Pay: £41,070.00-£55,000.00 per year
