Vincentian Independent Living is looking for a Full Time Skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team!

Hours: Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, rotating on-call schedule with occasional weekends as-needed


Summary:

The Skilled Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the grounds, facility and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This includes assisting in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, as well as established policies and procedures. This also includes working with management and staff to assure a successful maintenance program.

It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Commits to the Vincentian mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society.

3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.

4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures.

5. Uses personal protective equipment and supplies as appropriate.

6. Performs installations, repair and preventative maintenance in the areas of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Cooling (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical systems. This includes but is not limited to: communication systems, domestic water and waste systems, medical gas and vacuum systems, electrical distribution system, lighting system and electrically operated equipment.

7. Perform carpentry activities as they relate to either repair, renovation or construction.

8. Paints and repairs wall surfaces prior to application of finishes.

9. Operate all components of the utility systems, knows location and function of controls and shut-off, knows all utility system failure procedures.

10. Able to demonstrate the ability to guide and assist less experienced maintenance technicians.

11. Establish and maintain good rapport and cooperative relationship with clinical staff, co-workers, supervisors and others.

12. May perform landscaping, grounds maintenance and other outdoor duties as assigned. May also perform shoveling/plowing of snow and remove ice during the winter season if needed.

13. Perform testing, calibration, preventive maintenance and repair equipment included in the equipment management inventory according to established policies and procedures.

14. Must be able to work with little or no supervision in the normal course of duties.

15. May be required to work overtime during emergency situations. Emergency situations involve the immediate need to repair or otherwise mitigate a facility condition that is detrimental to the wellbeing of the residents or staff and will be determined by any of the following: Administrator, nursing leadership, Maintenance Manager, Safety Manager or VCS Facilities leadership.

16. Responds to resident medical alarms when activated. Inspects fire extinguisher and fire systems, according to predetermined schedule, corrects deficiencies. Responds to fire alarms when in the building.

17. Identifies and corrects (at the direction of facility leadership and/or the Safety Manager) any PA Department of Health or other regulatory agency issues.

18. Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe environment. Incorporates safety/risk management standards into daily job performance.

19. Performs job functions in a manner that promotes efficient use of resources.

20. May be required to assist with resident transport.

21. Will be on call to respond to emergency situations if needed.

22. Performs all other duties assigned by manager.


Education/Experience:

1. Trade or vocational school graduate preferred but not required.

2. Current/valid driver's license required.

3. Minimum of five years experience in various maintenance trades preferred.

4. Previous environmental services/maintenance experience in health care or long-term care preferred.


Work Environment:

Employees of a long-term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents.

Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary. Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood. In addition, employees may come into contact with hazardous materials and facility equipment.
