Slipway Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Slipway Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the slipway yard, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely handling, maintenance, and repair of vessels. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating vessel movements, enforcing safety regulations, and maintaining the condition of slipway equipment and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Team Management
- Supervise slipway staff, including helpers, riggers, and other support personnel.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide guidance to ensure operational efficiency.
- Conduct training sessions on safety procedures, equipment usage, and workflow standards.
- Maintain attendance, work schedules, and task reports for the team.
2. Slipway Operations
- Plan and coordinate vessel movements in and out of the slipway safely.
- Ensure proper use of slipway equipment, including winches, trolleys, cranes, and support machinery.
- Monitor ongoing vessel maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure timely completion.
- Prepare the slipway and surrounding areas for incoming and outgoing vessels.
3. Safety and Compliance
- Enforce all workplace safety rules, PPE requirements, and maritime regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Report hazards, near-misses, or incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure emergency procedures are known and followed by all personnel.
4. Maintenance and Asset Management
- Oversee maintenance of slipway equipment, tools, and machinery to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor inventory of materials, spare parts, and supplies for slipway operations.
- Coordinate with procurement or maintenance teams for equipment servicing and replacement.
5. Communication and Reporting
- Maintain communication with vessel operators, marine engineers, and yard management.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on slipway activities, vessel schedules, and staff performance.
- Coordinate with other departments for smooth operational flow.
Skills and Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in slipway or marine operations, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of vessel handling, maintenance, and slipway equipment operations.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
- Awareness of safety standards, maritime regulations, and emergency response procedures.
- Physically fit and capable of inspecting vessels, equipment, and slipway areas.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills for operational efficiency.
Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work, exposed to weather conditions.
- Frequent presence near moving vessels, cranes, and heavy equipment.
- Noise, water splashes, and exposure to paints, oils, or chemicals may occur.
- High responsibility for staff safety and smooth vessel operations.
