Position Summary
Havern School seeks a part-time Small Group Teacher to teach three middle school groups a language arts, reading comprehension, and math from 8 am -12 pm on M-F. This role serves middle school students (6-8) within our small-group model, emphasizing individualized instruction, flexibility, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities

Plan, deliver, and adjust small-group lessons in:

Structured Literacy — foundational and advanced decoding/encoding, fluency, vocabulary, and written expression aligned with evidence-based practice

Reading Comprehension — strategy instruction, text structure, vocabulary, close reading

Math — concept development, problem solving, and skill fluency using multisensory methods

Use data (screeners, progress monitoring, work samples) to differentiate instruction and update groupings or goals as needed.

Collaborate with teachers and therapists to align supports and ensure smooth student transitions.

Communicate regularly with families via conferences, phone, our messaging platform, and email.

Maintain student notes, anecdotal records, and assessments; contribute to progress reports (October, February, May).

Lead or participate in parent–teacher–student conferences.

Maintain an organized, professional learning space equipped for small-group instruction.

Attend meetings as needed.

Engage in professional development; remain current on research and best practices for neurodiverse learners.

Support admissions through classroom visits/observations and help promote enrollment internally and externally.

Uphold and model Havern School’s mission, values, and community norms.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Special Education or related field (Master’s preferred).

Training/experience with evidence-based literacy (e.g., Structured Literacy/Orton–Gillingham/Wilson/Barton or similar) strongly preferred.

Experience teaching reading comprehension and/or math in small groups; middle school experience preferred.

Commitment to the mission and philosophy of Havern School and to strengths-based, student-centered practice.

Sensitivity to the intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of neurodivergent students.

Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Experience with collaborative planning, curriculum adaptation, and team teaching.

Comfort teaching multiple grade levels and adjusting plans based on data and team input.

Flexible, solution-oriented, and open-minded in a dynamic school environment.

Belief in each learner’s capacity to grow with the right instruction and support.
This is a .5 FTE, part-time EXEMPT position with a starting salary of $25,000. Salary is negotiable based on experience and/or additional qualifications.
