Social Media Lead

About The Position

The Social Media Lead supports Seattle JazzED's efforts to grow awareness of our music education programs and engage our community of students, families, donors, and supporters across digital platforms. This is a hands-on opportunity for a creative, motivated individual to gain real-world nonprofit communications experience while contributing to a mission-driven organization making music education accessible to all youth.

The Social Media Intern will work closely with the Communications Manager to create and publish compelling content that reflects JazzED's voice and values.

This is a paid, part-time summer role. Some evening and weekend availability is expected to support community performances.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation & Posting — 70%

  • Create engaging content for JazzED's social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) including graphics, short-form video, reels, and copy
  • Produce polished graphics, social templates, flyers, and promotional assets that are visually consistent with JazzED’s brand
  • Develop and maintain a social media content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, events, campaigns, and program pushes
  • Capture photo and video content at JazzED events and programs throughout the summer to build an asset library for current and future use
  • Draft and schedule posts using Later, maintaining a consistent posting cadence across platforms
  • Support social promotion of fundraising campaigns, events, and donor engagement initiatives in coordination with the Development Team
  • Monitor comments, messages, and community interactions across platforms; flag items for staff response as appropriate

Analytics & Reporting — 15%

  • Track and compile key performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth, etc.) on a weekly basis
  • Prepare a brief end-of-summer summary report with observations and recommendations for the fall content strategy

Organizational Participation — 15%

  • Attend camps, concerts, and community gatherings to stay connected to JazzED's work and generate content
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager and Director of Development to ensure social content supports broader outreach and fundraising goals Reports to: Communications Manager

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Studied or worked in communications, marketing, journalism, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts (personal, student org, or professional)
  • Proficiency with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Youtube
  • Experience with graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Basic photo and video editing skills; comfort shooting content on a smartphone or with a DSLR
  • Strong writing skills with an ability to adapt tone and voice for different audiences
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Passion for JazzED's mission and commitment to making music education accessible to all youth regardless of their abilities or ability to pay

WORK LOCATION

This is a hybrid position. 50% of the responsibilities will be done remotely. 50% will be done on-site during our camps and events. The majority of work will be done during regular business hours.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a background check upon hire.

COMPENSATION

  • Part-time non-exempt position with a salary of $27 per hour.
  • Sick leave accrued at 1 hour per 40 hours worked per Seattle’s Sick and Safe Time Ordinance.
