Social Media Strategist (Remote, Part-time, 1099)

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Social Media Strategist who gets it—someone who understands that social media is a business tool, not a content treadmill. This is a role for a seasoned pro who can walk into a client relationship, assess the landscape, build the strategy, and run with it. You won’t need your hand held, and you won’t be waiting around for direction.

You’ll own the social media strategy for a portfolio of small business clients. You’ll work alongside our Project Managers to keep things on track and partner with our Director of Client Services to ensure clients are getting real value. The strategy is yours. The support is there when you need it.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Own the end-to-end social media strategy for a portfolio of clients—from initial assessment and platform planning through execution, optimization, and reporting.
  • Develop and manage content calendars for each client, producing sharp, on-brand written content tailored to each audience and channel.
  • Collaborate with our Director of Creative and Strategy on planning; bring enough to the table that these conversations are a gut-check, not a tutorial.
  • Brief and direct GreenCup’s graphic designers on social media visuals—you set the creative direction, they build it.
  • Manage client social profiles—currently Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn—with the flexibility and range to take on additional platforms as new clients bring new needs.
  • Show up in the comments—engage with followers, respond to messages, and represent each client’s brand voice like it’s your own.
  • Partner with the Director of Client Services to ensure client needs are being met, proactively flag concerns, and help identify opportunities to expand or enhance services.
  • Track, measure, and analyze performance across all channels and deliver clear, confident reporting on social media ROI—no fluff, just what matters.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to support content ideation and drafting, with human strategy and brand voice always driving the final product.
  • Stay current on platform changes, algorithm updates, and best practices—and apply what you learn without being asked.
  • Participate in client meetings and build trust through clear, confident communication.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • 4+ years of social media strategy experience managing multiple client accounts—agency experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build strategies from scratch and own them start to finish, not just execute someone else’s playbook.
  • Deep knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn—including what actually drives results on each platform.
  • Exceptional copywriting skills across multiple brand voices; you can sound like a different person for each client.
  • Experience in briefing and directing designers or creative teams.
  • Proficiency with social media scheduling tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, or similar).
  • Strong analytical skills and the confidence to turn data into clear recommendations.
  • Self-directed, proactive work style—you don’t wait to be told what to do next, and you have the maturity to manage confidential client relationships with discretion.
  • Reliable remote setup with consistent internet access.

THE DETAILS

  • Contract Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
  • Hours: 10–20 hours per month
  • Rate: Up to $40/hr, depending on experience
  • Location: Remote — must be located in the United States. Candidates in the West Michigan/Grand Rapids area are strongly preferred, as occasional in-person client visits may be required.
  • Start Date: Immediate

This is an ongoing 1099 contractor role — not a temporary or fixed-term contract. Hours are variable based on client needs, and we're looking for someone who's excited to grow with us long-term, not someone hoping to convert to a full-time W-2 position down the road. This role is open to U.S.-based candidates only

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
