Assistant District Attorney

About the Role:
Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a qualified Assistant District Attorney to provide professional legal support to the District Attorney and to act on their behalf when absent. This position requires independent judgment and discretion while assisting in prosecuting criminal cases and managing legal matters for the county.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in prosecuting all crimes and offenses within the county courts.
  • Manage fines, penalties, and other county monies related to prosecutions.
  • Assist in actions arising from recognizances taken in the county.
  • Prepare verified statements and reports related to forfeited recognizances, penalties, and judgments.
  • Maintain accurate records of indictments pending in county courts.
  • Conduct legal research and assist in preparing briefs and trial materials.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for admission to practice as an Attorney and Counselor at Law before the courts of New York State at the time of application.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar at the time of appointment.
  • Strong knowledge of Penal Law and Criminal Code.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present legal arguments.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all legal practices.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the position.

Pay: $77,475.00 - $119,082.00 per year
