Sofar Singles Event Promoter (specify your city - revenue share only)

Note: While this is a freelance role, candidates must be local to the market in which they are applying.

About Us

Sofar Sounds is a global community that connects creatives and audiences through unique and intimate experiences. We transform everyday spaces – from living rooms and rooftops to boutiques and museums – into captivating venues for live performances, creating inclusive events that bring people together to create space for discovery, community and connection. Founded in London in 2009, Sofar now operates in 400+ cities worldwide. The majority of these cities are run by a globally connected network of independent event organizers, empowered and supported by our distributed team.

We are deeply passionate about the work we do. When we’re not working, you can probably find us at a live show or telling anyone in earshot about the new song we can’t stop listening to. Discovering and supporting artists gets us out of bed every morning – and knowing that we’re creating memorable, intimate fan experiences worldwide drives our work forward.

The Role

It's just a gig, but everyone's single.

Our Sofar Singles events are designed to get people off of the apps and into real life, in a low-pressure environment designed for enjoying music and connecting with people. As a Freelance Sofar Singles Event Promoter, you'll launch our Sofar singles vertical in your city and nurture the growth of the brand as it scales. You’ll be a true Sofar ambassador, collaborating with other Producers in your city as you build a strong and vibrant following for Sofar Singles. You'll identify and book compelling spaces for these pop-up events, curate incredible musical lineups, execute local marketing initiatives to fill the room, and deliver exceptional experiences designed for connection.

Singles Events Producers live and breathe community experiences. You’re always discovering unique venues, experiences, and ideas that create meaningful connections, and you have networks you can easily tap into to organize unforgettable events (think venues, partners, local businesses, performers, etc.). Like all Sofar Producers, you’re entrepreneurial, resourceful, and driven – whether it’s creatively selling tickets or handling a day-of-event curveball, you know how to make things happen and thrive on the challenge.

  • Please note that this is a freelance, commission-based partnership, not a traditional employment role, offering flexibility and ownership in exchange for accountability and initiative. While the schedule is self-directed, much of the work naturally happens during evenings and weekends, when live events and community engagement come to life.

What You'll Do:

  • Launch and grow Sofar’s singles programming in your city: producing, promoting, and selling tickets with self-directed local marketing tactics.
  • Curate experiences and event flow that maximize opportunities for guests to meet and connect authentically.
  • When applicable, devise and apply strategies to achieve a suitable gender balance between event attendees.
  • Use knowledge of your city’s dating/social scene to select venues, programming, and atmospheres that are welcoming and resonate with your audience.
  • Strategically identify and reach key audience segments in your city to ensure events attract a balanced, engaged, and diverse group of attendees.
  • Own the staffing and quality of shows in your local market, working to ensure magical experiences that are rooted in hospitality
  • Identify and build relationships with local organizations with like-minded audiences to build community, broaden our reach, and co-promote shows.
  • Work closely with the Global Communities team to uphold Sofar’s standards, share learnings, and help shape Sofar’s singles initiatives more broadly.
  • Support financial performance by tracking profitability and helping ensure healthy growth of the city’s singles programming.
  • Collaborate with other local leaders to grow your city through diverse experiences that generate buzz and amplify Sofar’s brand awareness
  • Build relationships with local businesses and organizations to support sponsorships or private event activations tied to singles events.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with community organizations, collectives, and local networks with aligned audiences to broaden reach and co-promote events.
  • Contribute to a diverse ecosystem of Sofar experiences by collaborating with fellow Producers on ideas, cross-promotions, and community-building initiatives.

Who You Are:

  • You have deep connections to your local scene and play an active role in building community around it
  • You have 1-3 years of experience in live event curation, production, promotions, social media marketing, sales, and/or partnerships, ideally with exposure to singles mixers, speed dating, or connection-driven events.
  • You’ve organized, attended, or participated in singles events and have strong intuition about what activities, environments, and icebreakers feel natural (and which feel forced).
  • You’re comfortable putting yourself out there to make others feel at ease and create a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
  • You’re deeply tapped into your city’s social and dating culture: the neighborhoods, venues, and experiences that resonate with different age groups, identities, and communities. You segment audiences thoughtfully and understand that different groups may want very different types of experiences.
  • You’re a frequent event-goer who naturally scouts unique venues, experiences, and partners. You approach this work holistically – not just through a music lens – and have a growing network you can activate for bookings, collaborations, and special formats.
  • You’re adaptable, reflective, and feedback-driven, continually interrogating what works, what doesn’t, and why. You’re open to criticism, curious about perspectives beyond your own, and attentive to how different genders, identities, and orientations might experience the same event.
  • You’re commercially minded and understand how sharp programming, smart promotion, and strategic partnerships drive ticket sales, audience growth, and help solve challenges like balancing gender ratios.
  • You excel at building relationships with community-driven organizations, local businesses, media partners, and other groups that bring cultural and strategic value to Sofar’s singles programming.
  • You’re confident pitching ideas, event concepts, and partnership opportunities, ideally with some experience securing sponsorships or marketing activations.
  • You take pride in your work and bring professionalism, ownership, and hospitality to every touchpoint with guests, partners, venues, and collaborators.
  • You’re highly organized, a clear communicator, and thrive in flexible, self-directed environments while staying connected and collaborative with the broader Sofar team and other Producers in your city.
Compensation:

This Freelance Singles Event Promoter role is compensated through a revenue share model based on event performance. Earnings are directly tied to revenue, which is distributed to cover artist payments, gig insurance, and the Curator payments. Actual earnings may vary depending on factors such as show volume and total revenue.

Event Promoters are also eligible for sponsorship commissions for any sponsorships they sell, and may receive coordination fees for their assistance executing any partnerships sold by the global team.

Promoters are expected to maintain profitability across all events. If an event incurs a loss, that amount will be recouped from a future profit-share payment.

Other Details:

Some cities may already have active event producers or multiple roles available. You must be comfortable working alongside other producers and collaborating as part of a shared market, particularly in larger cities with multiple neighborhoods or vertical expansion opportunities.

Autonomy and support: You will lead locally while accessing global resources, training, and support from the Sofar team.

Flexible schedule: Events often take place on evenings and weekends.
