Position Title: Software Engineer

Location: Washington DC. This is a mostly remote position with occasional trips to DOT HQ at the customer’s discretion.

Job Summary: InDev is seeking a versatile Software Engineer to support PHMSA’s data warehouse modernization and reporting initiatives. This role involves developing backend services, APIs, and automation tools to support data migration, reporting workflows, and system integration activities. As a Software Engineer, you’ll work closely with clients, data engineers, and BI developers to manage the redevelopment of reports and dashboards from OBIEE to a modern Tableau-based environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in cloud environments, Tableau reports and dashboard development, and integrating automation tools for workflow optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and understand the existing OBIEE reports identified for migration.
  • Create automated migration tools that handle routine conversion tasks.
  • Recreate the reports in Tableau, ensuring functional equivalency and improvements where applicable.
  • Validate and test the migrated reports for accuracy, consistency, and performance.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and architects to ensure smooth data access and system interoperability.
  • Ensure software solutions adhere to data governance and security standards mandated by DOT and federal guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues impacting data access, reporting performance, and workflow automation.
  • Provide technical documentation and contribute to DevOps pipelines for continuous delivery of solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of overall professional experience, including at least 3 years of specialized software engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in Python for backend development.
  • Experience using Tableau MCP's suite of developer tools
  • Skilled in building APIs, automation scripts, and integration tools.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, SQL, and ETL/data warehouse environments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML tools and their integration into automation pipelines is desirable.
  • Experience working in Agile development environments, preferably on federal IT projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex software systems.
  • Solid understanding of data security, governance, and compliance in government IT systems.
