Software Engineer

Boston, MA (Hybrid) · $140,000–$170,000 + Equity

Xenia is a Series A, AI-powered operations platform for multi-location businesses: restaurants, retail chains, convenience stores, and hospitality groups. We help the people who run these places do their jobs better: consistent execution, real-time visibility, and less time on paper and spreadsheets.

We're building a small, high-ownership engineering team in Boston. We move fast and care deeply about the quality of our output.

The role

You'll be engineer #3 in our Boston hub, working closely in person (hybrid) with our CTO and founding engineer on the product that our customers depend on every day. This isn't a role where you execute a well-defined backlog; you'll have real input into what gets built, how it gets built, and why.

If you've spent a few years building real products and found yourself wanting more autonomy, more visibility, and more of a seat at the table than your current role allows, this is that role.

What we're looking for

  • 3-4 years of experience shipping production software; you've seen enough to know what matters and what doesn't.
  • Strong product instincts alongside engineering ability; you think about what you're building, not just how.
  • Comfort owning things end-to-end: you write the code, review others' work, handle the incident, and improve the system afterward.
  • AI-native. You use LLMs and coding agents as a core part of how you work. You understand they're a tool to be steered by high-quality human operators, not a replacement for judgment and taste.
  • Boston-based and excited for hybrid in-person collaboration with a tight, senior team.

Our stack

  • Node/TypeScript/React on the existing product; server-side-rendered Go for new services
  • AWS: ECS, RDS, EC2, S3, and more
  • Agent harnesses including Claude and Pi

This role would be a bad fit for you if...

  • You want a large team with clear pre-set roles and a well-defined scope
  • You're used to having a dedicated platform team, SRE team, or someone else who owns the hard operational problems
  • You'd rather work on well-understood domains with clear instruction than figure things out and make novel contributions to brand-new customer problems
  • You're not comfortable being on-call or owning incidents end to end
  • You're overly reliant on AI for collaboration, dropping obviously LLM-authored PR descriptions, code comments, or Slack messages on your peers without a strong editing pass

What you get

  • Strong ownership and implementation responsibility for a product driving millions in revenue.
  • Early-stage equity at a recently post-Series A startup where your individual output is directly visible in the company's trajectory.
  • Direct access to technical leadership with strong opinions and high standards; our CTO is ex-Stripe, and our founding engineer is ex-Hubspot.
  • A small team where your individual output is visible and valued; this role will have a disproportionately large seat at the table compared to equivalent roles at other companies.
  • Hybrid flexibility within the Boston area.
