Position:
Software Engineer 3

Telework: 16 hours/week based on tasks


LCAT Description: The Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, deploys, documents, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements. These systems might include, but are not limited to, processing intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, business management information systems, and systems which incorporate data repositories, data transport services, and application and systems development and monitoring. Works individually or as part of a team. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Open Source Software (OSS) and/or Commercial OffThe-Shelf (COTS) Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) software in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components. Experience developing in Unix. Ability to perform shell scripting. Working knowledge of Configuration Management (CM) tools and Web Services implementation.


SWE-3 Qualifications
: Master’s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus seven (7) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity

OR

Nine (9) years of experience as a SWE, in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.


Position Description

The Software Engineer shall be responsible for software development and sustainment activities for the modernization of a service that automates corporate data compliance requirements for the HPC organization.


Salary:
$160,000-$170,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, location and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.

Required Skills


  • Experience using the Linux CLI
  • Experience with creating/modifying scripts using Bash/Python
  • Experience with basic Linux system administration
  • Recent software development experience using Java and Python
  • Experience with designing and developing multi-threaded and distributed applications
  • Experience with Corporate data security and compliance procedures and policies
  • Experience performing benchmarking and system testing in a Linux environment
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts, principles, and best practices using tools such as GitLab CI
  • Experience deploying containerized services under Kubernetes orchestration
  • Hands-on experience working with RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Git for source code management

    • Experience with the Atlassian suite of tools including Confluence and Jira
    • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, PodMan, and containerd
    • Experience configuring and using metrics and monitoring tools such as Grafana
    • Experience programming in RUST
    • Experience with IaC (Infrastructure as Code) concepts, principles and automation tools such as Ansible
  • Experience with Message Broker technologies such as Pulsar, Kafka, or RabbitMQ
