Software Engineer IV

The Software Engineer IV serves as a senior technical contributor responsible for complex system design, cross component integration, and mentoring junior engineers. This role plays a critical part in ensuring reliability, scalability, and security of Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS).

• Lead technical design and implementation of complex AWIPS features.
• Perform advanced system and risk analysis across distributed architectures.
• Ensure compliance with NWS security, configuration management, and NIST standards.
• Design and oversee automated testing strategies and quality improvements.
• Provide technical leadership during operational incidents and root cause investigations.
• Mentor Level II and Level III engineers.
• Coordinate closely with Government SMEs, Prime Contractor teams, and other stakeholders.
• Support transition of software to operations and maintenance teams.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 8 to 11 years of progressive software engineering experience
• Expert knowledge of Java, Python, and Linux based systems
• Strong experience with system integration, testing frameworks, and CI pipelines
• Proven ability to lead technical efforts within agile development teams
