The Software Engineer Level V is a recognized technical authority responsible for architecting solutions, guiding system evolution, and ensuring long term sustainability of Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) capabilities in support of NOAA’s mission.
- Define and lead architectural solutions across AWIPS.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and architectural patterns.
- Lead system wide risk analysis and mitigation planning.
- Oversee complex integrations and mission critical deployments.
- Serve as a senior technical advisor to Government leadership.
- Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and configuration management requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in software quality, reliability, and performance.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across teams.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 12 or more years of advanced software engineering experience
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, SOA, and high availability architectures
- Strong leadership experience in large scale, mission critical systems
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders
