About the Position

We are looking for a reliable, hard-working Soil Sampling Technician / General Laborer to join our agricultural field operations team. This position involves traveling to farms and agricultural properties, collecting soil samples, operating field equipment, driving company vehicles, and helping with general labor and maintenance tasks.

This is a hands-on, outdoor, blue-collar field position. The right person should be dependable, physically capable, safety-minded, comfortable working around farms and equipment, and willing to travel for work when needed.

Most workdays begin around 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM, but some days may start as early as 6:00 AM depending on the job, travel distance, weather, and project schedule. Applicants must be able to show up on time, work hard, take direction, and keep a good attitude in a field-work environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include:

  • Performing soil sampling on farms and agricultural properties.
  • Collecting samples using soil probes, hand probes, augers, hydraulic probes, or other sampling methods used by the company.
  • Driving to and from farms and job sites throughout Texas and nearby regions.
  • Operating motorcycles, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, trucks, trailers, and other field equipment as needed.
  • Pulling trailers of different sizes with a truck.
  • Loading, unloading, securing, and tying down equipment properly using straps and other tie-down methods.
  • Following maps, GPS points, supervisor instructions, and assigned sampling routes.
  • Accurately labeling, organizing, and handling soil samples.
  • Keeping track of equipment, supplies, tools, and field materials.
  • Performing basic vehicle, trailer, ATV, motorcycle, side-by-side, and equipment maintenance.
  • Helping troubleshoot field issues and keeping the work moving.
  • Working safely around farms, vehicles, trailers, equipment, roads, and other workers.
  • Respecting farmers’ land, gates, crops, roads, equipment, and property.
  • Assisting with other general labor tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Good driving experience and a clean or strong driving record.
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle record check if requested.
  • Experience driving trucks and pulling trailers.
  • Experience tying down and securing loads with straps.
  • Ability to drive a manual/stick-shift vehicle.
  • Experience operating two-wheel motorcycles.
  • Experience operating four-wheelers/ATVs.
  • Experience operating side-by-sides/UTVs.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
  • Ability to walk fields, bend, lift, carry equipment, and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to travel to farms and job sites.
  • Willingness to occasionally stay overnight for larger jobs. Lodging and per diem will be provided when overnight travel is required.
  • Willingness to occasionally work weekends when needed.
  • Willingness to work more than 40 hours some weeks when workload requires it.
  • Understanding that some weeks may be less than 40 hours depending on workload, weather, farm availability, and business needs.
  • Ability to follow directions from supervisors.
  • Ability to work well with others in a field crew environment.
  • Strong reliability, punctuality, work ethic, and personal initiative.

Preferred Experience

The following experience is strongly preferred but not always required:

  • Agricultural work experience.
  • Soil sampling experience.
  • Farm, ranch, field crew, or crop-related work experience.
  • Mechanical experience.
  • Construction, plumbing, fencing, welding, equipment operation, or similar hands-on labor experience.
  • Experience maintaining trucks, trailers, motorcycles, four-wheelers, side-by-sides, small engines, or field equipment.
  • Experience working in a blue-collar crew environment.
  • Experience with GPS, maps, field apps, or route-based work.

Pay and Work Structure

  • Starting pay is $20/hour.
  • Opportunity for increased pay based on reliability, experience, performance, skill development, and company needs.
  • This position is currently structured as a 1099 contractor role, with possible transition to W-2 employee status in the future.
  • No benefits are offered at this time.
  • Hours may vary depending on workload, weather, farm availability, travel, and project schedule.
  • Some weeks may exceed 40 hours.
  • Some weeks may be less than 40 hours if work is slow.
  • Overnight travel may be required at times. When overnight travel is required, lodging and per diem will be provided.

Work Environment

This is an outdoor agricultural field position. Work may involve:

  • Early mornings.
  • Long driving days.
  • Walking through fields.
  • Dust, mud, heat, cold, wind, and changing weather.
  • Working around farms, equipment, trailers, vehicles, and field crews.
  • Physical labor and repetitive sampling work.
  • Occasional overnight travel and weekend work.
