Solar PV & ASHP Design Operative

We are looking for a skilled, detail-driven Solar PV & ASHP Design Operative to join our growing renewable energy team. This role is key in turning qualified opportunities into accurate, compliant, and install-ready designs for domestic properties across Scotland.

You will work closely with sales, surveyors, retrofit teams, and installers to ensure all systems are correctly designed, commercially viable, and compliant with industry standards and Scottish property requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce technical designs for:
• Solar PV systems
• Battery storage systems
• Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs)
• Create accurate system designs using survey data, floor plans, photos, and customer energy usage
• Design Solar PV systems using Easy PV and OpenSolar (essential)
• Size ASHP systems using heat loss calculations suitable for Scottish housing stock
• Design roof layouts considering orientation, shading, generation, and system performance
• Select suitable inverters, batteries, and system components
• Generate schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and installation specifications
• Ensure all designs comply with:
• MCS standards
• PAS 2035 / PAS 2030
• Building Regulations
• Manufacturer guidance
• Provide technical support to sales, survey, and installation teams
• Assist with installer and surveyor queries during pre-install and installation stages
• Maintain accurate records, design files, and compliance documentation
• Support with proposal accuracy, customer savings calculations, and system performance estimates

What We’re Looking For

• Experience using Easy PV or OpenSolar is essential
• Experience designing domestic Solar PV systems and/or ASHP systems
• Strong technical understanding of renewable energy systems
• Knowledge of Scottish property types and installation considerations
• Ability to interpret survey information, floor plans, and technical documentation
• Strong attention to detail with a compliance-focused approach
• Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Confident communicating technical information to non-technical colleagues
• Experience with Spruce or other ASHP design software is advantageous
• Understanding of MCS and PAS compliance requirements preferred
