Solar PV & Battery Installer + UK Remedials Specialist — Cotswolds to West London

About us
MakeMyHouseGreen is a growing UK solar installation company. We quote, design, and install in-house, and we're MCS-registered — so you're working under our scheme certification and don't need your own NICEIC/NAPIT/MCS registration to sign EICs on our jobs.

The role
The most varied role on our install team, and we mean that.

Around two-thirds of your week: remedials and pre-install surveys. Remedials means travelling to jobs across the UK — diagnosing what other installers got wrong, fixing it properly, and signing it off. Surveys means going out to homes before we quote, looking at the roof, the consumer unit, the run, and the awkward bits, and coming back with the answers that let us design the system properly. Between the two, you'll see a wider range of systems, kit, faults and houses in a year than most installers see in five. Overnight stays and travel are fully expensed.

The other third: domestic solar PV and battery installs across the Cotswolds to west London patch — Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, west London. Full installs, AC and DC, on residential properties. Enough to keep your installer hands sharp and to ground your remedials and survey work in what's actually deliverable.

This isn't an entry-level role. We need someone with enough breadth to walk onto an unfamiliar system and work out what's wrong, and enough judgement on a survey to spot the problems that aren't obvious from the doorstep. Confidence, methodical thinking, and the willingness to back your own diagnosis when it differs from whoever installed it originally.

If you've got strong electrical fundamentals but haven't done much solar or battery work yet, we'll pay for the tickets to bring you up to speed. You'd start on installs and survey ride-alongs and move into independent remedials and surveys once you're up to scratch — typically 2–3 months. What we can't train is being reliable, methodical, good with customers, and unafraid to call a problem a problem.

What you'll be doing

  • Travelling to remedial jobs across the UK: diagnosing issues, fixing them properly, and signing them off
  • Conducting pre-install surveys at customer homes — roof, electrics, cable runs, access, the awkward bits — and writing them up so design and ops can quote and plan accurately
  • Installing solar PV and battery systems across the Cotswolds-to-west-London patch — full installs, AC and DC
  • Inspecting, testing, and signing off electrical work (EIC and DC certificate)
  • Talking customers through what you've found and what you've done — clearly and without jargon
  • Feeding back to ops on patterns you're seeing — what's breaking, what's getting missed at survey, what's slowing installs down — so we can fix it upstream

Must-haves

  • Level 3 NVQ or Diploma in Electrical/Electrotechnical Installation — e.g. C&G 2357, 5357 (apprenticeship), 2365, or EAL equivalent
  • If you came via apprenticeship: AM2 / AM2E / AM2S passed
  • 4+ years' electrical experience
  • Comfortable at heights and on roofs, or genuinely open to learning
  • Full UK driving licence, clean enough for company van insurance, and genuine willingness to travel and stay away occasionally
  • Based within reasonable reach of the patch — GL, OX, CV, WR, MK, HP, RG, SL, SN, or west London postcodes
  • Reliable, methodical, good with customers — comfortable being the person who delivers difficult news on someone else's work, and patient enough to do a thorough survey when the customer wants you in and out in 20 minutes

We'll pay for these if you don't already have them

  • 18th Edition (BS 7671) Amendment 2:2022 — and Amendment 4 once it comes into force
  • C&G 2391-50 or 2391-52 Initial Verification (or the equivalent unit within your Level 3)
  • C&G 2922 Solar PV (Level 3 Award)
  • C&G 2923 Electrical Energy Storage Systems / Battery (Level 3 Award)

We sponsor the course and exam fees in exchange for a commitment to 15 completed installs over the following 12 months. Tapered clawback if you leave early — full details up front, nothing hidden.

Nice-to-haves (real edge for the remedials and surveys side)

  • Domestic solar PV and battery install experience — particularly across multiple manufacturers (GivEnergy, Solis, Fox, Sungrow, Tesla, etc.)
  • Hands-on fault-finding and diagnostics experience — solar, battery, or wider electrical
  • Survey or assessment experience in any trade — solar, electrical EICRs, heating, or similar
  • ECS Gold Card (Installation Electrician)
  • Experience working on slate, Cotswold stone, or period property

What's in it for you

  • £45k–£55k depending on experience
  • Employee stock ownership plan — you own a real piece of what you're building. Rare for a role like this.
  • Sponsored training to add 18th Edition, 2391, 2922 and 2923 to your CV
  • The most varied installer role in UK solar. You'll see more kit, more failure modes, and more houses than any pure-installs role offers.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company van and fuel card
  • Travel, overnights and meals fully covered for remedials
  • Steady pipeline — you won't be sitting at home waiting for work
  • Real input on how we run installs — your remedials and survey feedback directly shapes what we change upstream
  • Company pension
  • A direct hand in the UK's clean energy transition

Apply if you're a solid electrician who likes mixing it up — happy doing the methodical detective work on remedials and surveys, and just as happy back on the tools doing a clean install.

Application question(s):

  • Are you comfortable working at heights and carrying out roof works? If no direct experience, are you open to learning this aspect of the role?
  • Which of the following do you currently hold: Level 3 electrotechnical qualification, AM2, 18th Edition, 2391, 2922, 2923, ECS Gold Card?
  • Are you genuinely happy with regular UK-wide travel and overnight stays? (We ask because this is the part of the role candidates most often underestimate, and it's a bigger share of this role than most.)
  • Have you done survey or assessment work before (solar, EICR, or any trade)? If so, briefly describe.
