Team members work directly in neighborhoods across the city to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable collection services for residents and businesses.Why You’ll Love Working With UsStart a stable career in public service with advancement opportunitiesWork as part of a supportive, team-oriented environmentServe the community through essential daily operationsGain valuable experience operating equipment and collection vehiclesBuild skills that can lead to long-term growth within City operationsAbout the Role: The Solid Waste Operator performs manual collection duties and operates rear-loading collection trucks to provide refuse, recycling, and bulk waste services throughout Greensboro.Key Responsibilities: Operate and drive rear-loading solid waste collection trucks safely and efficientlyCollect refuse, recycling, bulk waste, and uncontained materials from residential service areasFollow written and route-based collection schedules and proceduresUse two-way radios and communicate effectively with team members and supervisorsComplete daily surveys, vehicle inspections, and operational documentationCross-train and assist with additional duties within Special Services Operations as neededProvide excellent customer service while interacting with residents and the publicMaintain safe work practices while working outdoors and around heavy equipmentAdditional Position Details: Position requires frequent walking, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and heavy manual laborRequires lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in all weather conditionsEarly morning reporting times and flexible schedules may be required during holidays, emergencies, or operational needsMust maintain reliable attendance and dependable communication contact informationMust obtain and maintain a Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 180 days of employmentPosition is NON-EXEMPT under FLSAWomen and minorities are encouraged to applyPotential Career Path: Employees in this role may advance into positions such as: Senior Solid Waste Operator ?
