Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented SolidWorks Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly layouts, and production documentation for custom dredging systems, pumping equipment, floating structures, process piping systems, and heavy industrial equipment.
Working closely with engineers, project managers, fabrication partners, and clients, you will transform conceptual designs into accurate manufacturing and construction packages. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting equipment design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and field installation while ensuring drawings meet company standards, project requirements, and industry best practices.
This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale custom equipment projects in the mining, oil sands, marine, industrial, and bulk material handling industries.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks.
- Create manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawing packages for custom equipment and industrial systems.
- Produce detailed structural steel, platework, piping, and mechanical component drawings suitable for fabrication.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), cut lists, and material take-offs.
- Generate equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, skid layouts, and assembly drawings.
- Support engineers with design development, drawing revisions, and design optimization.
- Perform drawing checks and ensure compliance with company drafting standards and project requirements.
- Coordinate with fabrication shops, vendors, and suppliers to resolve drawing-related questions and fabrication issues.
- Incorporate vendor-supplied equipment models into project assemblies and plant layouts.
- Maintain and organize project documentation, drawing revisions, and engineering records.
- Assist with field measurements, site walkdowns, and equipment verification activities as required.
- Support fabrication, assembly, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and commissioning activities by addressing design and documentation issues.
- Create and maintain weldment models, sheet metal designs, structural assemblies, and piping layouts.
- Participate in design reviews and constructability reviews to improve manufacturability and assembly efficiency.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, structural, electrical, controls, and project management personnel.
