3D Injection Mold Designer (Toolroom / Precision Mold Environment)Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled 3D Injection Mold Designer to join our precision toolroom team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing high-quality injection molds for plastic components, ensuring manufacturability, durability, and cost efficiency. This role requires strong 3D CAD expertise, in-depth knowledge of mold construction, and hands-on collaboration with toolmakers and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design complete injection molds (single-cavity, multi-cavity, family molds) using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, NX, Creo, or similar).
  • Develop detailed mold layouts including core & cavity, sliders, lifters, ejector systems, cooling circuits, and hot runner systems.
  • Create 2D manufacturing drawings with GD&T specifications.
  • Perform mold flow analysis (preferred) to optimize gating, cooling, and part quality.
  • Review part designs for manufacturability (DFM) and suggest improvements.
  • Collaborate with toolroom machinists, CNC programmers, and project managers to ensure accurate mold build.
  • Manage design revisions and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Support mold trials, troubleshooting, and mold improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die, or related field.
  • 3–7+ years of experience in injection mold design within a toolroom or precision mold manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks / Siemens NX / Creo / similar).
  • Deep understanding of mold components, mold steels, heat treatment, and manufacturing processes (CNC, EDM, grinding).
  • Knowledge of plastic materials and shrinkage factors.
  • Experience with hot runner systems (e.g., Husky, Mold-Masters, Yudo) is an advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and customer specifications.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Moldflow or other simulation software.
  • Familiarity with high-precision or multi-cavity molds.
  • Knowledge of automation-ready mold designs.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Work Environment

  • Precision toolroom / mold manufacturing facility.
  • Hands-on interaction with machining, EDM, polishing, and assembly departments.
