Solutions Architect & Technical Lead
Location: Remote
Type: Full-Time
Clearance: Ability to obtain Elevated Public Trust
US Citizenship Required
Salary Range: $185-$195K
About the Role
World Services LLC, an IT engineering, solutions, and management consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to support a federal agency on an enterprise-wide digital transformation initiative.
We’re looking for a Solutions Architect who can design, build, and optimize secure, high-availability AWS architectures while mentoring teams and proactively preventing production pitfalls. The ideal candidate can speak fluently about Terraform state locking, AWS Lambda cold-start mitigation, Kubernetes zero-downtime rollouts, and IAM least-privilege design, and can demonstrate those skills in practice.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role that requires real technical problem-solving, not just whiteboard design and incorporates technical leadership expectations.
At World Services LLC, you’ll work in a collaborative, people-first culture within a stable, mission-driven federal environment, building secure, resilient systems that support critical programs alongside experienced teams.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Define AWS architectures using the Well-Architected Framework.
- Design serverless workflows (Lambda, API Gateway – proxy and non-proxy), microservices, and data pipelines (Textract, Databricks, Glue).
- Implement Terraform IaC with DynamoDB state locking and S3 versioning to prevent race conditions.
- Provision, administer, and optimize PostgreSQL databases, including schema design, migrations, performance tuning, backups, replication, and security best practices.
- Architect fault-tolerant integrations, API Gateway caching, and cross-account role assumptions.
- Strong foundational knowledge of the Spring Boot Framework with a focus on implementation and modernization.
Technical Leadership
- Lead design reviews on Spring Boot/Java microservices, including thread safety and concurrency best practices.
- Mentor teams on Kubernetes networking, VPC Lambda implications, and container security.
- Drive adoption of observability (CloudWatch metrics/logs, AWS X-Ray tracing) and CI/CD deployment safeguards.
- Responsible for working in collaboration with the Program Manager to ensure all technical initiatives are planned for and implemented according to government and industry standards.
- Need to factor in the government’s accountability requirements for this role.
Infrastructure & Integration
- Deploy Kubernetes workloads with zero downtime (maxUnavailable=0, readiness probes).
- Secure secrets with Kubernetes Secrets, AWS Secrets Manager, and CSI driver integration.
- Optimize Lambda cold start performance with provisioned concurrency and minimal package size.
Governance & Compliance
- Apply prevent destroy and other safeguards to critical resources.
- Enforce IAM least privilege, scoped permissions.
- Maintain alignment with federal compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, FISMA, Section 508).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years designing and implementing enterprise AWS solutions.
- 3+ years providing technical leadership for software development projects.
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of:
- AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Glue, Textract
- Terraform with S3 + DynamoDB backend for state locking
- Docker + Kubernetes (VPC networking, zero-downtime deployment)
- Spring Boot + Java concurrency/thread safety
- IAM policy design, cross-account role assumption
- CloudWatch log retention & metric filters, AWS X-Ray distributed tracing
- Strong experience troubleshooting CrashLoopBackOff issues, VPC egress, and cold start delays.
- Clear communicator able to explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
- Databricks/Spark ETL pipeline optimization
- API Gateway caching configuration
- Ruby on Rails for rapid prototyping
- Federal project delivery experience
