Spa Manager

The Spa Manager is responsible for directing the daily operations of the spa and salon, guest satisfaction, associate supervision, financial profitability, cleanliness, and maintenance. This role ensures the delivery of exceptional guest experiences, oversees a diverse team of professionals, and drives performance through service excellence, operational efficiency, and financial oversight.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for managing and supervising all areas of the spa, spa retail, and salon including associates, facilities, programs, services, and hours of operation.
  • Coordinates the delivery of spa and retail services, including salon, massage, skin care, reservations, reception desk, spa locker room areas, and co-ed areas.
  • Directs associates to successfully administer all spa and salon operations, including guest service, associate satisfaction, product quality, inventory management, report generation, and policy implementation.
  • Lead, coach, and manage associates, providing guidance, training, and support to foster a motivated team.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to keep employees informed of policies and ways to enhance service and sales.
  • Strives to improve guest and associate satisfaction and maximize financial performance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive spa revenue and profitability, including pricing and scheduling strategies.
  • Resolve guest issues and concerns to satisfaction.
  • Oversee the administration of goods, requisitions, inventories, and cost-effective usage of department-related equipment, products, and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the spa, coordinating with Housekeeping and Engineering as needed.
  • Implement and monitor compliance with health and safety regulations, including emergency response procedures.
  • Identify and implement new trends, treatments, and technologies to keep offerings fresh and competitive.
Other Duties
  • Recruit, interview, and hire hourly associates with the appropriate skills to meet business needs, ensuring they receive comprehensive training on spa products, services, and policies.
  • Oversee team member performance and development, including supervision, scheduling, counseling, evaluations, promotions, and terminations, to foster positive associate relations.
  • Oversee purchasing, inventory, and vendor relationships.
  • Establish, implement, and monitor operating policies and procedures.
Working Conditions

  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak resort periods as required by the demands of a luxury resort operation.
Equipment Use
  • Familiarity with spa and salon treatment and services equipment.
  • Proficient with standard office tools and POS systems.
  • Proficient with spa management software.
Mental and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and push/pull as needed during shifts.
  • Ability to remain composed and handle stressful situations while maintaining a calm and welcoming demeanor.
Communication Requirements
  • Excellent leadership, team management, training, and coaching skills with experience developing motivated teams.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to keep employees informed and motivated while fostering positive two-way communication.
  • Requires collaboration with multiple departments and occasional attendance at resort events or meetings.
  • Maintain confidential interactions with high-profile guests, members, ownership, and hotel management and staff.
Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum of 4 years of leadership experience in a luxury spa setting is preferred.
  • Understanding of 5-star service standards, spa operations, wellness programming, and effective staffing models.
  • Ability to collaborate on the creation and implementation of spa and salon service menus.
  • Knowledge and experience with different types of massage, body, and skin care treatment modalities, products, equipment, and vendors.
  • Proficiency in spa management software. Book4Time is preferred.
  • Understanding of state and local regulations pertaining to spa and salon operations, including maintaining appropriate licensures, permits, and health and safety standards.
  • TB clearance card as required by the Hawaii State Department of Health.
