    Position Summary
    This position is for the 2025-2026 school year. This educator must believe that all students can reach their highest potential. We are looking for a collaborative staff member who wants to learn and grow while supporting students.

    Reports To
    Building Principal and Special Education Director

    Work Schedule
    187 days, 7.5 hours per day

    Responsibilities
    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods, learning styles and educational research related to learners with all types of special needs.
    2. Prefer experience with co-teaching
    3. Strong classroom management, communication, organization and planning skills.
    4. Experience in developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs).
    5. Knowledge of both formal and informal diagnostic assessments for students with a variety of learning difficulties.
    6. Demonstrate knowledge in literacy and numeracy intervention programs.
    7. Experience in administration and interpretation of standardized and informal special education assessments.
    8. Demonstrate problem-solving skills through collaborative work with students, teachers, parents and administrators.
    9. Participate collaboratively in teaching teams to design curriculum and assessments.
    10. Experience in managing cases including regular communication with parents and faculty.
    11. Ability to align curriculum and assessments with Colorado Content Standards.
    12. Positively impact achievement and differentiate instruction based on the needs of the students by supporting programs designed to increase student achievement.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Provide a responsible diagnostic and prescriptive program for students in alignment with special education law and MTSS.
    2. Assess and evaluate students who are referred for possible special education services in order to determine eligibility and pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in learning styles and academic achievement.
    3. Work in an instructional capacity through collaborative practices with general education teachers in a co-teaching setting.
    4. Consult with parents and provide consultation services to the classroom teacher and other related service team members in areas of student need.
    5. Act as a team member, attending meetings and staffings designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
    6. Act as an advocate in an advisory capacity for meeting the needs of children with educational disabilities in the community and at parent group meetings.
    7. Supervise the work of the assistant and volunteers assigned to the program.
    8. Provide in-service and workshops for teachers and staff during the school year.
    9. Evaluate the progress of students.
    10. Complete all necessary forms and records as required by Sheridan School District 2 and the Colorado Department of Education.
    11. Participate in workshops for professional growth.
    12. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the building principal or Special Education Director in accordance with district policies.


    General Expectations
    1. The Special Education Teacher shall hold a valid Colorado license with approved endorsement as a teacher of the category of handicap being taught.
    2. Bachelor’s degree or higher required from an accredited university or college.
    3. Completed a state approved Teacher Preparation Program, participation in a Teacher in Resident Program or participation in an Alternative Teacher License program.
    4. Demonstrates competency by one of the following means:
    • Pass the Place or Praxis test.
    • Pass the Veteran Teacher HOUSSE, held a license on or before July 1, 2006 and has had one or more years of completed teaching experience.



    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions required the following physical demands: some lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
    None

    CLEARANCES:
    Must clear background check through the CBI and the FBI through Fingerprint submission.
