RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM - Building Principal, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, Special Education Teacher
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION - Primary responsibility includes providing additional adult assistance to student(s) throughout the school day with visual impairments/blindness that includes transcribing materials into Braille, transcribing Braille, adapting classroom materials, and supporting tactile learning, as required in the student’s Individualized Education
Plan (IEP).

QUALIFICATIONS -

- High school graduate or equivalent;

Knowledge of Braille code (training in Unified English Braille)

Fluency in Braille transcription

Ability to relate to students with disabilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provide services for students including physical, behavioral, and academic assistance according to the IEP and
under the direction of certified staff. -
Prepare, adapt, and organize instructional materials and equipment.

Confer, plan, and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education teachers, teachers of the visually impaired and others in order to ensure students receive appropriate services in alignment with the IEP.

Transcribe small projects to Braille.

Transcribe student work (Braille) to written text.

Serve as a resource for other students, staff, and faculty member by promoting best practices for interacting with and serving students with visual impairments.

Collect data and maintain records for students as directed.

Perform personal care duties for students with disabilities.

Supervise students transitioning throughout the classroom, building, and throughout the school day.

Maintain confidentiality by discussing assignments only with district, IASBVI, and AEA staff who have a legitimate
need to know. -
Seek out professional development opportunities and maintain a continuing program of staff development.

Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and attention to detail and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.

Attend all in-service and staff meetings as directed.

Follow building associate work hours unless directed and approved in advance.

Report concerns to appropriate school personnel.

Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS -

Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.
