The Volcano School of Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time, 10-month Special Education Resource teacher to provide individualized and small-group instruction to students with disabilities in a resource room setting. This role is responsible for delivering specially designed instruction, implementing and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with school staff, families, and support personal, and fostering academic, social, and behavioral growth students with mild to moderate needs. T_his position is temporary until the end of the schoolyear with possibility of extension._
Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small group direct instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals and grade-level standards.
- Plan, adapt, and deliver lessons that accommodate diverse learning needs and modalities.
- Create and maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, and engaging resource room environment.
- Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior supports and interventions.
- Assist with developing, writing, and implementing IEPs for students served in the resource room setting.
- Collect and analyze data on student academic and behavioral performance, needs, and progress toward IEP goals.
- Participate in IEP meetings.
- Collaborate and consult regularly with general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, support staff, and related service providers to coordinate supports and accommodations.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning.

Qualifications:
- Teacher license or Emergency Hire Permit with bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of two years of teaching experience
- A minimum of one year working with students with special needs
- Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards and evidence-based interventions.
- Knowledge and experience designing and delivering instruction and interventions to support students with academic and behavioral challenges
- Knowledge and respect for Hawaiian values, knowledge, and practices
- Demonstrate student-centered thinking and decision-making
- Demonstrate commitment to student success and the belief that all students can learn
- Enjoy professional collaboration and demonstrate positive attitude and growth mindset
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with parents, partners, and staff

Term: 10-month, Full-time, 35 hours per week
Annual Base Salary: $51,935.00 to $101,861.00 in accordance with HSTA collective bargaining salary schedule based on higher education degree or credits and years of service.
- Starting base salary for 1st year teacher without a license and BA/BS degree is $51,935. Starting base salary for 1st year teacher with a license and MA/MS degree is $57,662.
- Prior charter school or HIDOE salary classification honored with copy of SF5 or Personnel Action Form
- Maximum credits for private school and out-of-state experience offered
- Differential pay of $7,500 for licensed teachers for school’s designation in “Hard-to-Staff” location
- Differential pay of $10,000 for special education teachers with teaching license in any field
- Differential pay $5,000 for teachers with Hawaiian Language, Studies, or related degree
