Special Education Teacher

Role Purpose:

To identify, support, and train students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia (reading disorder) and dysgraphia (writing disorder). The role ensures that these students receive personalized strategies, accommodations, and interventions to improve literacy skills, academic performance, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assessment & Identification

Screen and assess students for signs of dyslexia, dysgraphia, or related learning difficulties.

Collaborate with psychologists, teachers, and parents for formal diagnosis and support planning.

2. Individualized Education Support

Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student.

Provide remedial teaching sessions focusing on reading, spelling, handwriting, and written expression.

Use multisensory teaching methods (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) suited to learning needs.

3. Classroom & Curriculum Support

Adapt classroom materials (simplified text, larger fonts, assistive worksheets).

Recommend and integrate assistive technology (text-to-speech, spelling tools, writing software).

Support subject teachers in making classrooms inclusive.

4. Parent & Teacher Collaboration

Conduct orientation/awareness sessions for parents and teachers about dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Share regular progress reports with parents.

Train teachers on strategies to support students in mainstream classrooms.

5. Skill Development & Confidence Building

Provide exercises for improving phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Train students in handwriting techniques, fine motor skills, and spelling strategies.

Encourage self-advocacy so students can express their needs confidently.

6. Monitoring & Reporting

Track student progress through records, reports, and assessment tools.

Provide regular updates to school management and parents.

Adjust strategies based on progress.

Qualifications (Preferred):

B.Ed. in Special Education (Learning Disabilities) OR

Diploma in Special Education / Remedial Education recognized by RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India).

Certifications in dyslexia/dysgraphia interventions (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Jolly Phonics, multisensory teaching).

Expected Outcomes:

Improved literacy and writing skills among students with dyslexia/dysgraphia.

Greater inclusion and participation in mainstream classrooms.

Empowered students with confidence and learning independence.

Increased awareness and capacity among teachers and parents.

Job Types: Part-time, Fresher
