Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse needs. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), adapting curriculum, and utilizing various teaching strategies to support students' academic and social growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Utilize effective classroom management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
- Design and adapt curriculum to meet the diverse learning styles of students.
- Provide speech therapy and behavioral therapy as needed to support student development.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and specialists to ensure comprehensive support for each student.
- Conduct assessments and standardized testing to monitor student progress.
- Engage in lesson planning that incorporates literacy education, math, and physical education.
- Foster early intervention strategies for students requiring additional support.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress towards IEP goals.
- Support students with autism, developmental disabilities, and other special needs through tailored instructional methods.
Skills
- Strong classroom management skills to maintain an effective learning environment.
- Experience in curriculum development that accommodates various learning abilities.
- Knowledge of deaf education practices is a plus.
- Proficient in using learning technology to enhance educational experiences.
- Background in early childhood education, including preschool experience and toddler care.
- Familiarity with behavioral management techniques and childhood development principles.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience working with children in daycare or private school settings is beneficial.
- Ability to implement IEPs effectively while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of behavioral health practices relevant to special education.
- Passion for teaching and commitment to the welfare of children with disabilities. REQUIREMENTS : Must have a MA/MS and hold any of the following:
- NYS Permanent Certification in Special Education
- NYS Certification in Students with Disabilities Birth - 2nd Grade (Initial or Professional)
- NYS Certification as Teacher for Speech & Language Disabilities (TSSLD ) (Initial or Professional)
