EMIT Learning is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher to work on our school campus in Lake Forest, CA for the upcoming school year 2025-26.

Job Description for Special Education Teacher

SET needed in Lake Forest, CA

Age Group: All

Start: ASAP

End date: June 2026 (Possible extension)

Total hours: 35 - 40 hours per week (will include 30-minute unpaid lunch)

Required License/Certification: Mild/Mod

Duties

  • Develop and implement customized lesson plans aligned with IEP goals tailored to each student’s unique needs.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using proven behavior management techniques.
  • Incorporate learning technology and adaptive tools to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Conduct assessments using standardized testing methods to monitor progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support student development.
  • Provide speech therapy or physical education as needed to support holistic student growth.
  • Facilitate early intervention programs for toddlers and preschoolers, including Montessori or preschool experience where applicable.
  • Engage in curriculum development that includes literacy education, math, social skills, and life skills training.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP meetings, and communication with parents or guardians.
  • Support child welfare by creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes childhood development and well-being.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification/license for special education in the relevant state or region.
  • Experience working with children with autism, developmental disabilities, speech delays, or other special needs.
  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to handle diverse behavioral challenges effectively.
  • Knowledge of working with people with disabilities across various age groups including toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children.
  • Familiarity with learning technology tools and adaptive educational resources.
  • Experience in curriculum development for special education settings including literacy education, math instruction, physical education, and behavioral health strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with students, parents, staff, and external specialists.
  • Ability to develop individualized lesson plans tailored to each child's abilities and goals while adhering to legal requirements such as IEPs. This position provides an enriching environment for educators passionate about fostering growth in children with diverse learning needs while contributing positively to their academic and social success.

Pay: $50.00 - $65.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
