Special Education Teacher

Position Summary

An Elementary School is seeking a dedicated Cross Categorical Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive, collaborative elementary school environment. The ideal candidate is student-centered, flexible, and committed to fostering academic growth, social-emotional development, and positive learning experiences for all students.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality instruction aligned to district curriculum and students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes learning and positive behavior
• Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, administrators, and families
• Participate in building and district professional learning, meetings, and committees
• Maintain accurate lesson plans, student records, and required documentation
• Supervise students during instructional and assigned non-instructional times
• Ensure proper care and use of school materials, equipment, and facilities
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in support of student success

Qualifications

• Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) teaching license (Cross Categorical / Special Education) or (willingness to attain)
• Strong classroom management and instructional skills
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and meeting the needs of diverse learners

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the school for extended periods
• Ability to respond to active situations and support student movement
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed
• Ability to work in an environment with frequent activity, noise, and interruptions
