JOB DESCRIPTION

The Special Education Teacher will:

  • Plan and provide specially designed instruction to students receiving special education and related services.
  • Collaborate with related service providers and general education staff in the implementation of accommodations and modifications
  • Draft and maintain IEPs, Prior Written Notices, and potentially evaluation paperwork, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines
  • Plan and facilitate meetings throughout the special education process
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents, staff, and administrative staff regarding student planning and progress.
  • Manage the transition of new enrollees eligible for special education and related services.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be proficient in the use of technology.
  • Great Hearts teachers must also demonstrate a commitment to and love for classical education

Education and Other Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (transcripts required)
  • Candidates must hold a valid Louisiana Department of Education certification in Special Education (mild to moderate, cross-categorical, learning disability, or intern/alternative)
  • Candidates must pass a Louisiana Department of Education background check including fingerprint clearance

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of successful Special Education teaching experience in a K-12 school setting, preferably in a SPED classroom, but we will consider candidates with only resource experience
