Overview
Provide instruction to students with disabilities aimed at achieving benchmarks determined by the State of Michigan.
Duties
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students with disabilities in their general education classes, diagnosing and interpreting student abilities and assisting with appropriate prescriptive objectives.
- Confer frequently with parents and professionals regarding cognitive, affective, and psychomotor challenges of students.
- Facilitate all IEP meetings of assigned students.
- Work cooperatively with support staff assigned to the department.
- Provide appropriate materials to teachers, aides, and parents of students with disabilities.
- Assist counselors that work with students with disabilities in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and occupational goals that meet their needs.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university.
- Must have a valid Michigan teaching certificate.
- Must meet state and federal highly qualified teacher requirements as set forth by the State of Michigan for Special Education.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of technology to promote efficiency in the position.
- Ability to run a categorical or resource room program.
- Ability to prepare lesson plans and organize a meaningful instructional program.
- Ability to maintain discipline and to develop relationships with students with disabilities.
- Ability to maintain records, and prepare reports and correspondence related to the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
