Special Education Teacher/Tutor - K-2

Job Title: Part-Time Tutor / Special Education Teacher for Special Needs Child (Age 12)

Location: Menifee

Schedule:
Tuesday–Friday, 10:00 AM–12:30 PM
Approximately 8 hours per week

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified, experienced Special Education Teacher to provide one-on-one academic support for a 12-year-old child with significant special needs. While the child is 12 years old, their academic functioning ranges from approximately kindergarten to second grade with scattered skills across subject areas. This position requires a professional who is confident working with students with moderate to severe disabilities and who can support both academic learning and behavioral needs in a structured, calm, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized, one-on-one instruction tailored to a child with moderate to severe special needs
• Design and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the child’s IEP goals
• Work directly on academic, functional, and behavioral IEP goals as appropriate
• Use evidence-based special education strategies, including differentiation, task analysis, and multi-sensory instruction
• Support the child through maladaptive behaviors using positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies
• Maintain a structured routine while remaining flexible to the child’s needs and regulation, child responds best to a gentle approach
• Collect informal data on progress toward IEP goals and communicate observations with parents/caregivers
• Create a safe, patient, and encouraging learning environment at all times

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable):

• Current or former Special Education Teacher with direct experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
• Demonstrated experience managing maladaptive behaviors in educational or therapeutic settings
• Strong understanding of IEP implementation, behavior supports, regulation strategies, and individualized instruction
• Ability to remain calm, consistent, and professional during challenging behaviors

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with home-based instruction or one-on-one tutoring
• Familiarity with functional academics
• Special Education Teacher- mod/severe

Compensation:
Competitive and commensurate with experience
