Role Purpose:
To support pupils with special educational needs so they can learn, develop, and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify pupils with special educational needs and assess their learning needs
- Plan and deliver individualised lessons and support programmes
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit different learning needs
- Work closely with classroom teachers, teaching assistants, and SENCOs
- Create and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or support plans
- Monitor pupil progress and keep accurate records
- Support pupils with learning, communication, emotional, or behavioural needs
- Use specialist strategies, resources, and equipment where needed
- Communicate regularly with parents/carers about pupil progress
- Attend meetings and reviews related to SEN support
- Follow safeguarding and inclusion policies
Skills and Qualities Required:
- Patience, empathy, and understanding
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Good knowledge of SEN conditions (e.g. autism, ADHD, dyslexia)
- Ability to adapt teaching to individual needs
- Good organisation and record-keeping skills
Qualifications :
- Teaching qualification
- SEN training or experience
- Knowledge of SEN legislation and inclusive education practices
