Orthopedic Surgeon
Job Summary
An Orthopedic Surgeon evaluates patients with musculoskeletal conditions, performs surgical and non-surgical treatments, and works to restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve quality of life. They may specialize in areas such as sports medicine, spine surgery, joint replacement, trauma, pediatric orthopedics, or hand surgery.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine patients and review medical histories
- Diagnose bone, joint, muscle, ligament, and tendon conditions
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans
- Develop treatment plans for injuries and disorders
- Perform orthopedic surgeries, including:
- Joint replacements
- Fracture repairs
- Arthroscopic procedures
- Spine surgeries
- Prescribe medications and rehabilitation programs
- Monitor patient recovery and postoperative care
- Collaborate with physiotherapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Educate patients on injury prevention and treatment options
- Maintain accurate patient records and surgical documentation
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent medical degree
- Residency training in orthopedic surgery
- Medical license to practice
- Board certification in orthopedic surgery (preferred or required in many countries)
- Fellowship training in a subspecialty (optional)
