Overview

The Strategic Intelligence Specialist (Funds & Private Equity Focus) supports the Firm’s business development and market intelligence initiatives across its leading private equity and investment funds practices. This role combines deep sector knowledge with analytical rigor to produce high-quality research, reporting, and insights that inform client targeting, market positioning, and strategic growth opportunities. The Specialist will collaborate closely with partners, business development professionals, and the broader Strategic Intelligence team to deliver timely, actionable intelligence on fund managers, investors, and the private markets ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research on private equity and funds clients, including fundraising activity, fund formation trends, portfolio company transactions, and exit strategies.
  • Track and analyze market activity across buyouts, secondaries, growth, and venture strategies, identifying patterns that inform client targeting and practice development.
  • Prepare tailored reports, dashboards, and profiles summarizing key fund strategies, investment approaches, and market positioning.
  • Monitor developments among major sponsors, investors, and competitors through press releases, filings, databases, and media coverage.
  • Collaborate with CDE and practice leadership to provide data-driven insights supporting client pursuits, pitch preparation, strategic planning, and external insight creation.
  • Maintain and enhance internal databases tracking PE/funds relationships, fundraising cycles, and market share.
  • Partner with the Quantitative Analyst to interpret deal data and valuation metrics relevant to funds and portfolio activity.
  • Uphold quality, accuracy, and consistency standards in all research deliverables.
  • Contribute to the design of recurring market intelligence reports covering private equity and funds trends across regions and subsectors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in finance, economics, or business preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in market research, business development, or intelligence focused on private equity, funds, or broader financial services.
  • Experience working within a law firm, data provider, consulting, or financial institution covering private equity or alternative asset management.
  • Strong understanding of private markets, including fund structures, investor profiles, fundraising dynamics, and portfolio company lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with key research and financial data tools (PitchBook, Capital IQ, Refinitiv, Bloomberg, Preqin).
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize financial and qualitative data into concise, actionable insights.
  • Strong Excel skills, including use of advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data visualization techniques. Experience with Power BI, or other analytics tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with automation and AI tools (ChatGPT).
  • Exceptional writing and presentation skills; ability to communicate clearly and confidently with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative, resourceful, and proactive work style, with intellectual curiosity about private markets and emerging investment themes.

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
