Position Overview:As a Special Education Substitute Teacher, you will play a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of students with disabilities in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. You will step in for the regular Special Education Teacher when they are absent, providing continuity in instruction and ensuring that students continue to receive the support and accommodations they require to succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:Implement lesson plans and instructional activities tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities.
Adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities.
Provide one-on-one or small group support as necessary to address students' specific learning challenges.
Classroom Management:Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and engagement.
Enforce classroom rules and routines to ensure a productive learning atmosphere.
Collaborate with support staff, such as paraprofessionals and therapists, to coordinate and deliver services effectively.
Documentation and Reporting:Keep accurate records of student progress, including assessments, behavior, and individualized education plans (IEPs).
Communicate regularly with the Special Education Teacher, parents/guardians, and school administration regarding student performance and any concerns.
Professional Development:Stay informed about best practices in special education and attend relevant training sessions or workshops.
Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and plan interventions.
Flexibility:Be prepared to adapt to various grade levels and disabilities, depending on the assignment.
Follow the curriculum and instruction provided by the regular teacher, adjusting as needed to meet student needs.
Qualifications:
Education:Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field. A valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching permit is required.
Experience:Previous experience working with students with disabilities is highly desirable.
Experience in a classroom setting, either as a teacher or substitute teacher, is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:Familiarity with special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Strong classroom management and behavior management skills.
Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
Adaptability and the ability to quickly grasp and implement provided lesson plans.
Passion and Empathy:A genuine passion for working with students with disabilities and a commitment to their growth and well-being.
Empathy, patience, and a caring attitude towards the unique challenges faced by these students.
Background Check:Must pass a criminal background check and meet all other requirements set by the school district or educational institution.
Physical Requirements:Ability to assist with mobility, personal care, and other physical needs of students with disabilities as necessary.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
